BE, Electronics & Communications Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology, University of Madras (India)
Why did you choose your program and area of study?
Prior to completing the MEM Program, I had done my Bachelors in Engineering in India. I chose Engineering Management from a reputed University in the United States because I wanted to get a deeper understanding of how business processes work related to engineering fields. I was also looking forward to experience in an international environment.
Briefly describe your Duke Experience.
Duke gives a person a complete education. The wide variety and high quality of courses offered provide great flexibility and a wide range of choice. I also found students from almost every continent and several different countries at Duke. My horizons broadened considerably. The wide range of high quality extra curricular activities was incredible. The support I got from the professors and staff of the MEM Program was exemplary!
What impact has the degree had on your career?
Following graduation, I worked at a tech company for a year and a half, but after gaining some experience living, working and travelling in the United States, I came back to my family business in India, where I work with people from a number of different countries. My global experience at Duke certainly has helped in that area.
What advice would you give to admitted students who are considering Duke?
If you happen to study at Duke, make sure to make the most of the all the excellent extra-curricular events. While careers are important, be sure to connect in several other ways as well. While I was there, I got to witness concerts by renowned musicians from around the world, and plays such as CATS. Don't miss the Basketball games, especially the ones against the Tar Heels!
