Undergraduate Degree: BA, Physics, Emory University
Why did you choose your program and area of study?
I worked in a material science lab during college, but was frustrated by the lack of application of the science to real-world problems. I wanted to move into the business implementation of science & technology.
Briefly describe your Duke Experience.
Attending graduate school at Duke was a blast! The course work was stimulating and real-world applicable, and my classmates were an amazingly diverse bunch. I also made use of resources outside of the MEM program, auditing photography and dance classes in the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences. And of course, I attended all of the basketball games...Duke has so much to offer!
What impact has the degree had on your career?
In the first few years of my career, the MEM degree helped me hit the ground running. In later years, it gave me credibility in my area of expertise.
What advice would you give to prospective applicants - those who are just beginning to explore graduate options at Duke?
Find a program that blends the academics with practical applications, and provides exposure to many different fields of study.
What advice would you give to admitted students who are considering Duke?
Duke's biggest asset was supporting me as I sought career opportunities after graduation. If you are using your graduate degree as a springboard to your career, there's no better place.
