New Student Checklist

After receiving your admission offer letter

By enrollment decision deadline (see deadline in your admission letter)

Within 2 weeks of accepting your admission offer

  • Request official transcripts from your college or university if you have already completed your degree. If you are still enrolled, please wait until your degree has been issued before sending official transcripts.
  • US Citizens and Permanent Residents should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 
  • For further information on FAFSA and the U.S. Department of Education’s student aid programs, visit https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/contact. When completing the online form, students will be asked for Duke's school code; it is 002920. Once you have received confirmation that your forms are complete and have been forwarded to the University, a financial aid officer will complete your aid award. If you have any questions during this process, you may contact Graduate Financial Aid at 919-681-3247 or egrp-finaid@duke.edu.

New Student Orientation (Campus Programs only)

Orientation is required for all new students and is an opportunity to introduce you to the MEM and MEng programs. A detailed orientation schedule for your program will be sent to you in the months prior to your arrival and will be posted here. 

Fall 2018 Orientation

When to Arrive – International Students

Pratt's International Student Orientation begins on Monday, August 13. We encourage students to arrive during the week of August 6, to have time to adjust to the United States and get settled in Durham before Orientation begins. You may arrive in the United States up to 30 days before the first day of classes (August 27).

When to Arrive – Domestic Students

The first session of the Pratt Master's Student Orientation for domestic students will be on Friday, August 17. After this programming, you will have the opportunity to connect with international students and settle in over the weekend before we continue with orientation activities throughout the week of August 20. Classes start August 27.
