Carey Rudell


Assistant Director, Professional Development

Carey designs and coordinates professional development programming for graduate students at the Pratt School of Engineering.

She comes to Duke from a federal government and nonprofit background.  She was a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. She designed and managed International Visitor Leadership Programs that brought foreign leaders to the United States to share best practices and strategies to confront international challenges. Carey also served as the Portugal Country Desk Officer in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. Her first Foreign Service tour was in Mumbai, India. She received a Meritorious Honor Award for her compassionate service to American citizens and a Meritorious Honor Group Award for assisting with the 2010 presidential visit to India. 

Carey earned a Master of Arts degree in International Affairs from George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. She lives in Cary with her husband, B.J., and their three young children.
